The Modane Underground Laboratory is Europe's deepest underground research facility, operated by CNRS and Université Grenoble-Alpes. Located 1,700 meters below ground within the Fréjus highway tunnel, it provides an exceptionally low-radiation environment for fundamental physics experiments in dark matter detection and neutrino research. The lab also hosts geoscience and biology studies and operates a museum for science education and public outreach.
